Math Up!

Math Up!

Focus, Attention to Detail, and Problem-solving Skills
At MindWorks, we believe that there is no substitute for diligent and consistent effort when it comes to math. This makes it an ideal vehicle for (re-)establishing your child’s attitudes and dispositions toward confronting challenges and problems, both at school and beyond.
More often than not, the greatest obstacles for students in math learning has less to do with the curriculum and more to do with their anxiety about making mistakes and their inexperience coping with frustration and disappointment. Enrolling such a child in a by-the-numbers tutoring service or telling them to “Just get it done!” rarely leads to positive long-term outcomes. Instead, they become even more convinced that they are either “not good at math” and/or that they “don’t like math,” thus shutting many doors of future opportunity before they can even materialize.
Regardless of your child’s current skill level, we would love to work with them. At Mindworks, your child will learn: 1) it’s okay to make mistakes, and 2) how to learn/recover from mistakes, and 3) how FUN and rewarding math learning can actually be!
Your child will enroll in one of two class time slots below. Daily attendance is strongly encouraged.
Mon~Fri
Class 1) 4:00~4:50PM
Class 2) 4:50~5:40PM
Tuition: $100/wk

The Write Side

The Write Side

Reading with Understanding and Writing with Purpose
In the age of on-demand streaming videos, video games, and social media, many children never develop a genuine love of reading. As a consequence, they also fail to become skilled writers. Indeed, it is not at all uncommon for such students to take remedial English composition courses in college but still struggle to complete important writing assignments in a timely manner. In the professional world, the inability to communicate effectively and persuasively can be a major handicap, disqualifying otherwise competent individuals from consideration for hiring or promotion to a position of greater responsibility.
Our comprehensive curriculum at MindWorks covers everything from basic letter recognition to graduate-school level work in reading comprehension and essay organization. More importantly, Mindworks will help your child to appreciate the fact that literacy is an essential tool for navigating the landscape of ideas that make up the world around them.

College Admissions Coaching

College Admissions Coaching

How to Prepare for a Marathon and Not a Sprint
Our approach to elite/competitive admissions coaching has a long and proven history of placing students at some of the most prestigious universities and colleges across the nation. At Mindworks, we will carefully formulate, in collaboration with your child, a custom-tailored plan that will prepare them for the marathon ahead.
Intensive weekly coaching and mentoring formally begins in the 9th grade for those who are already well-situated to take on the highest honors and AP-level courses available in high school. However, it is never too early to start the planning process.*
By working with us, not only will your child gain a significant advantage in navigating the admissions process, they will also gain the ability to: 1) dynamically adapt to changing circumstances, 2) manage and recover from setbacks, 3) honestly evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses, and 4) independently research opportunities that fit their own criteria. In short, we will work with your child to not only gain admission to a high quality university, but to thrive upon arriving there.
*Ancillary services (e.g. personal statement revision, interview preparation, etc.) are also available for those who begin the process late and are thus not able to take full advantage of the full suite of coaching services.
Regular clients of this program receive 10% discount on all of the items under “Other Services” pertaining to their application essay(s).
Your child will sign-up for a weekly 30-minute session, during which we will set and monitor their progress toward meeting both short and long-term goals.

Tutoring: The Key to Building Strong Studying and Homework Habits
First, a tutor is much more than a ‘homework helper.’ Tutors offer flexible, individualized instruction and personal attention that a busy classroom teacher simply can’t provide. If your child has fallen behind in math, for instance, a tutor can identify their learning gaps, design a curriculum that reviews mathematical concepts and problems, and patiently work with the child until they master each lesson.
Is Your Child in 8th Grade? The Time to Start Planning for College is Now
Another reason to consider tutoring services in middle school is to prevent the learning loss that happens during summer break and midterm vacations. Regular tutoring sessions can give your child a head start on mastering the concepts they’ll be learning in the next semester.
The Importance of Math Tutoring
First, if students don’t fully comprehend basic mathematical concepts that build upon each other, they may easily get lost as instruction becomes more advanced. Here’s a typical example: if “Johnny” doesn’t really understand decimals, fractions, and ratios by eighth grade, Algebra 1 in 9th grade may seem overwhelming.
